The Hon. Daniel S. Belsky is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego county in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in December 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Ronald S. Prager.
Belsky earned a B.A. in history from Hobart College in 1974. He then attended the University of Miami School of Law, where he received a J.D. in 1977.
Belsky began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Lewis B. Whitworth of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in 1976. Then, in 1978, he joined Eliassen, Postel, and Mee, where he briefly worked as an associate before moving to Rhoades, Hollywood, and Neil in 1979. Belsky then served as vice president of Sulzner and Belsky from 1986 to 1992, all before starting the Law Offices of Belsky & Associates. During his twenty-five year tenure there, he worked as its president and managing shareholder, specializing in medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, as well as professional errors and omissions cases.
At the time of his appointment to the bench, Belsky was serving as a partner at Davis, Grass, Goldstein and Finlay, a law firm that specializes in defending healthcare providers in medical malpractice cases.
His memberships have included the Litigation Counsel of America, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the San Diego Defense Lawyers, the Defense Research Institute, the Lawyers Club of San Diego, and the San Diego Association of Healthcare Risk Management.
Belsky is registered without party preference.
