This presentation offers a unique opportunity to delve into the critical aspects of generational wealth transfer, particularly the transfer of high-value personal property and the risk mitigation and appraisal issues that accompany such transfers. Over the next two decades, $84 billion in assets will transfer from baby boomers to their heirs, driving high-quality artwork and property collections to market. The need for effective collection management, wealth planning, and accurate valuations of personal property becomes increasingly significant. This presentation explores the necessary preparations for tax planning and trust and estate professionals regarding the generational transfer of fine art. Additionally, the presentation highlights why fine art appraisals and valuations are the cornerstone of successful wealth transfer, using a case study of a son's inheritance of his mom's trust estate, including a portion of her art collection.

Stephanie Downer is a member of the Tax, Benefits, & Estate Planning practice group in Buchalter's San Diego office.  She primarily focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, wealth transfer planning, transfer tax minimization, trust administration, and probate law.  Ms. Downer regularly advises professionals, families, and business owners in all aspects of estate planning including revocable living trust plans, gift and estate planning with irrevocable trusts, charitable gift planning, property tax planning, and trust administrations.

Ms. Downer is a certified specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.  Approximately only five percent of California's attorneys are certified as specialists by the State Bar of California.  Ms. Downer further holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law.
