Shea award given by the San Diego County Bar Association Certified Family Law Specialists.\n \n \n \nTopic: \n \nDeath During Divorce: The Phantom Menace?\n \nThe national divorce rate is 50%.  In California it is 60%.  It is likely that half of your estate planning clients will go through a marital dissolution.  What happens when “’til death do us part” falls in the midst of that proceeding?  Meredith Brown will speak about legal fictions that exist only in family law proceedings and steps that can be taken to preserve them in the event of a litigant’s death.  She will also discuss the procedure for making changes to estate planning, severing the automatic right of survivorship in jointly titled property, and the unintended consequences of doing so.\n \n \n \nMeal: \n \nServed: 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM\n Served with Iced Water.
