As the international policy studies group the Aspen Institute stated, “No longer a nice-to-have amenity, the public library is a key partner in sustaining the educational, economic, and civic health of the community…Public libraries are engines of development within their communities.” The San Diego Public Library creates opportunities for a lifetime of literacy and learning, from programs that prepare infants to become readers to a model literacy program that teaches adults to read for the first time. The San Diego Public Library offers educational opportunities, concerts and art exhibits, and free access for everyone in the community to technology and the resources they need to succeed. Our presentation will share how your Library makes a difference, focusing on its life-changing literacy services.\n \nLocation: Central Library @ Joan and Irwin Jacobs Common, Shiley Special Events Suite, 9th Floor\n \n5:30 – 6:30 pm: Guided tours of the Art Gallery and Hervey Family Rare Books Room, networking with hosted beer and wine\n \n6:30 pm: Dinner and program\n \nParking validation will be provided\n \n• Take Rt. 163 southbound toward downtown, or take 5 South, and exit onto 10th Ave. south. Follow 10th Ave. south toward PETCO Park. \n \n• Take 10th Ave. south. Take a left onto K Street. \n \n• Go one block to stop sign. The Library will be directly in front of you. Access to the Library’s underground parking garage is a quick left onto 11th Ave and down ramp on the right side.
