Master Gemologist Appraiser®

Active in the jewelry industry since the mid 1970's, Thom began as a goldsmith and jewelry manufacturer. He opened San Diego Gemological Laboratory in 1978. Starting in 1981 Thom transitioned his manufacturing company into a fine jewelry store, Currie & Underwood situated in the Mission Hills community of San Diego. In 1991 Thom sold his interest in Currie & Underwood and has since focused on independent jewelry appraisal services.

Topic: 

The Illusion Held Together with Facts…Appraising Jewelry for Estates and Trusts. A discussion on FMV (Fair Market Value) as it applies to estate and trust appraisals,  Orderly Liquidation Value as it applies to estate and trust issue of equitable distribution and a brief discussion on Approximate Replacement Value as it applies to insurance/indemnity.

The Three Biggest Misconceptions about Insuring Valuables: 

1. You don't need to have separate insuarance for your valuable items because your homeowner's policy includes that coverage.

2. Creating a list of valuable items and gathering your receipts and appraisals is a hassle.

3. Insuring valuables cost too much.
